Hodonín 5 - 4 Grilled
It was an exceptionally sunny day for the crowd that came out to the stadium today. It was a sunny day and the technical players could roll the ball around with ease. Those that had to chase after the ball found the weather less appealing, it especially stymied the game of Powerful and Quick players. Lineup:
Eğilmez -
Paitchadze,
Weikamp -
Jelić,
Orinčić,
Moczar,
Campino,
Sośniak -
Tesárek,
Matache,
Oliva.
Starters:
Germanakos -
An Keng,
其材 (Qicai) -
Reddy,
Thach,
Kwang Tse,
Khairul,
Parada -
Reece,
Thoroddsen,
La Face.
The coaches were in sync today, as both teams lined up in a 2-5-3 formation. Hodonín took a creative approach on the field. Hodonín nearly produced a goal as
Melchior Weikamp set up
Bedřich 'Kapučíno' Oliva for a strike from a seemingly impossible angle. He was unprepared though, and put the shot wide. Grilled had a good opportunity to score the go-ahead goal after a combination on the right but the home team's keeper
Ünal Eğilmez saved
Federico Parada's shot that was headed straight to the top corner. At the 26 minute mark, it looked like the opportunity for Hodonín to score had been missed when suddenly
Bedřich 'Kapučíno' Oliva worked his way clear and fired off a spectacular shot. The keeper had no chance! 1 - 0. Cheers filled the stadium as
Mihai Matache broke through the visitors' central defense to put away the 2 - 0 goal for Hodonín. Big paper red cards were being held up by the opposing supporters with 36 minutes on the clock after
Edward Sośniak's mistimed tackle from behind. The referee only showed the Hodonín player a yellow card though. Some mind-boggling play by
José Campino almost resulted in a Grilled goal, but
Gústav Thoroddsen's shot went off the post. The away team improved the scoreline to 2 - 1, as
Mohd Marzuki Khairul was able to strike home thanks to a good play on the left 41 minutes into the match. The visitors' equalizer seemed inevitable after 42 minutes, following a one on one situation around the left hand side of the goal area, but
Ünal Eğilmez got the best of it, blocking the shot from
Evandro La Face. Grilled's coach was furious with
Chad Thach after he picked up a yellow for saying one too many words to the ref. Given a free kick from a ways out after 43 minutes, Hodonín sent an arching ball into the penalty box. It was headed clear, but
Mihai Matache was waiting just outside the area and fired it home to make it 3 - 1. The teams went for the halftime break at 3 - 1. Looks like Nate Silver was right again - his prediction that Grilled would have 54 percent possession in this half was spot on!
With 51 minutes gone, Grilled replied and reduced the lead to 3 - 2.
Evandro La Face scored after a marvelous cross from the left. Grilled's
Brian 'Was Born' Reddy was shown a yellow card after 62 minutes for slicing down an opponent.
Witold Moczar gave Hodonín supporters even more to cheer about when he increased the lead to 4 - 2 after 65 minutes, following a good exchange of passes on the right that the away team failed to deal with. The suddenness of
Petr Tesárek of Hodonín's pass to
Mihai Matache caught the opposition looking the wrong way, and they could only watch as the ball sailed home for 5 - 2. One, two, three goals! That completed a hattrick for
Mihai Matache. AH! AH! AH! The home team's lead was reduced to 5 - 3 after Grilled's
Evandro La Face took advantage of a misunderstanding in the center of the defense. The Grilled free kick 73 minutes into the match seemed wasted, as the shot was both short and off target. But it was no mistake -
Chad Thach seemingly came out of nowhere and had miles of space to control the ball and pick his spot. That's 5 - 4! Grilled's right side looked dangerous 75 minutes in, but
Ünal Eğilmez made a good save on
Evandro La Face's hard shot towards the top corner. If the home side can close out the game with their lead intact, they'll have
Ünal Eğilmez to thank, after he made a stunning leap to deny
Gústav Thoroddsen from scoring the equalizer after a run through the center 83 minutes in. With 84 minutes played, Hodonín's
Witold Moczar received a yellow card for challenging a play with his cleats first. It was announced by the fourth official that he estimated stoppage time to be around 4 minutes. This meant there could still be an extra attack or two left in the match! The match ends 5 - 4. Well, look at this! Cardi B is on the Enormotron in naught but giant sunglasses and a Twisted Metal F.C. tank top. I've not seen anything like it before. Most important Hodonín player was
Ünal Eğilmez. Even six year old fans were wincing at the poor play by
Davit Paitchadze today.
Gústav Thoroddsen performed admirably for Grilled. Speaking of stinking up the place,
Lim An Keng sure smelled like the bottom of Batman's shoe after a night of crimefighting in Gotham.
