Eintr. Braunschweig fielded a 3-4-3 lineup. For Grilled Birds, the formation of choice was a 2-5-3. Though it was beautiful soccer, the home crowd did not enjoy
Orest Tokarz's goal after a run down the left with 14 minutes on the clock. Grilled lead, 0 - 1. The home fans looked somber as they watched their team give up another goal, this one coming from their right as
Federico Parada put one through the keeper's legs. 0 - 2 after 26 minutes. Braunschweig's
Deniz Özke got the home crowd going bananas when he finished off a left wing bull rush, reducing the away team's lead to 1 - 2. Grilled's
Chia Kwang Tse received a ball slotted perfectly through the home side's central defense after 32 minutes, and chipped it past the helpless keeper to increase the lead to 1 - 3. The away fans won't regret traveling for this one!
Orest Tokarz was, after 35 minutes, almost able to extend the visitors' lead with a well placed diving header after the ball had looped into the center, but the home side's keeper
Klemens Praxmarer made the save. It was 1 - 3 at the break. Grilled did a good job holding on to the ball, with 58 percent of possession. We'll be back after these interminable commercial messages.
Abhirup Mamidi was the first to reach the corner kick, but his header was blocked by the keeper. However, Braunschweig's
David Carusone managed to get ahold of the rebound and scored to make it 2 - 3. Just a few inches to the right, and the visitors could have had a goal in minute 55.
Federico Parada was overheard by some in the stands blaming either Grebulon or sunspots, depending on their individual loyalties. Grilled's
Brian 'Was Born' Reddy has the innate ability to create chances out of thin air. 68 minutes in he jumped up and tried a bicycle kick, knocking the ball straight past the keeper, resulting in the 2 - 4 goal. 70 minutes into the game, Grilled wanted to bring some new energy to their game.
Orest Tokarz gave
Evandro La Face a quick hug as he left the field. As the 70 minute mark approached, the Grilled manager decided it was time for a substitution.
Chia Kwang Tse reluctantly made way for
Lim An Keng. Some fine one-twos on the left led to a Grilled goal with 72 minutes gone, making it 2 - 5.
Lim An Keng was noted down as the scorer.
Gústav Thoroddsen somehow managed to break free of his man on the left wing and only needed a relatively easy finish to bring Grilled's lead up to 2 - 6. The players were tired, but when the referee announced that there would be 3 minutes of added time, they welcomed the extra opportunity to make an impact. 2 - 7 was a funny story: the seemingly nonchalant lob from Grilled's
Brian 'Was Born' Reddy landed at the feet of
Federico Parada who sent it into the net - goal! The ball was in the back of the home team's net yet again after 90 minutes, but this time the referee called the goal back because
Gústav Thoroddsen had knocked a member of the opposing team to the ground while the play occurred down the middle of the field. The match ends 2 - 7. Now to our celebrity commentator for a hot take. Over to you, Snoop! Braunschweig's top performer was clearly
Deniz Özke. You can tell it was nickel beer night yesterday at the local bar because
Klemens Praxmarer seemed to stumble all over the pitch. Grilled's best player was
Gústav Thoroddsen. Speaking of stinking up the place,
Dimitris Germanakos sure smelled like the bottom of Batman's shoe after a night of crimefighting in Gotham.
