Grilled Birds trundled out to the pitch in a 2-5-3 formation. The visitors, KS Lechia Gdańsk, chose to start the game with a 5-2-3 lineup. Using their extra-terrestrial (16) counter-attacking abilities was the strategy of choice for Lechiści today. Grilled took the lead 12 minutes in, as
Orest Tokarz broke through on the left and put his shot just beyond the reach of the outstretched keeper, bringing the score to 1 - 0. 19 minutes into the game, Grilled's
Orest Tokarz tried to nail the coffin shut, but his shot from the left glanced off the top of the bar to fall behind the net.
Gústav Thoroddsen increased Grilled's lead to 2 - 0, connecting with a hooked ball from the right. The away fans are claiming handball, to no avail. Coming in from the right,
Mohd Marzuki Khairul almost managed to score another goal for Grilled, but his header was kept out by the lightning fast reflexes of the visiting keeper. The counter-attacks of Lechiści were deadly and 39 minutes into the game,
Donnie Oskam controlled a long pass from the right flank and finished to make it 2 - 1.
Gústav Thoroddsen let loose a swerving effort from the right that the visitors' keeper did well to tip wide. Big paper red cards were being held up by the opposing supporters with 41 minutes on the clock after
Gústav Thoroddsen's mistimed tackle from behind. The referee only showed the Grilled player a yellow card though. 2 - 1 was the halftime score. Well, look at this! Cardi B is on the Enormotron in naught but giant sunglasses and a Twisted Metal F.C. tank top. I've not seen anything like it before.
Orest Tokarz gave Grilled supporters even more to cheer about when he increased the lead to 3 - 1 after 67 minutes, following a good exchange of passes on the right that the away team failed to deal with. After 70 minutes, the Grilled coach wanted to see a new face on the field, waving
Orest Tokarz off.
Evandro La Face took his place.
Brian 'Was Born' Reddy saw that the keeper was out and shot from an incredible distance 77 minutes in. Unfortunately for Grilled, the ball skimmed the crossbar and went over. The goal to make it 3 - 2 was scored by
Czesław Zgoliński with 78 minutes on the clock, following an opportunistic counter-attack down the middle by Lechiści. After 80 minutes, a couple of quick and successful challenges followed by a shot from just outside the penalty area by
Chad Thach might have resulted in another goal for Grilled. However,
Yiorgos Dratzidis made a spectacular save. The referee showed Grilled's
Evandro La Face the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. Grilled solidified their lead at the 82 minute mark, as
Evandro La Face snaked the ball through the central line of defense and finished for 4 - 2. Feeling like a boy about to meet his girlfriend's father for the first time, the inexperienced Grilled struggled to maintain their level of play after 83 minutes. Things were going from bad to worse for the visitors.
Evandro La Face was able to squirm through the central defense after 84 minutes and score, bringing the lead to 5 - 2. 85 minutes into the game, Grilled wanted to bring some new energy to their game.
Gústav Thoroddsen gave
Phua Ming Xin a quick hug as he left the field.
Czesław Zgoliński could've grabbed a goal for Lechiści 86 minutes in when he got a pass from the left putting him free of the home side's defense, but he was unable to take advantage of the situation. It was announced by the fourth official that he estimated stoppage time to be around 3 minutes. This meant there could still be an extra attack or two left in the match! The match ends 5 - 2. Looks like Nate Silver was right again - his prediction that Grilled would have 71 percent possession in this half was spot on!
The most outstanding Grilled player was without a doubt
Evandro La Face. Good thing
Dimitris Germanakos isn't a horse, because he'd surely be sent to the glue factory after that performance. Most important Lechiści player was
Czesław Zgoliński. Speaking of stinking up the place,
Mikhail Karetskiy sure smelled like the bottom of Batman's shoe after a night of crimefighting in Gotham.
