It was to be a contest between two different football philosophies, since the home team started the game with a 3-5-2 formation while the visitors instead opted for a 2-5-3. Grilled clearly preferred using their divine (+7) (27) ability to attack in the middle today. A mistake by the home side's central defense after 2 minutes allowed
Joe Reece to score for Grilled. The visitors have the lead, 0 - 1. It was obvious that Grilled had instructions to attack in the middle when they directed a break on the wing into the center of the park. After 3 minutes, Grilled's
Orest Tokarz burst through the central defense and let loose a cannonball of a shot, scoring for 0 - 2. A thrilling play through the middle after 18 minutes gave Grilled's
Joe Reece a chance to increase the lead, and he happily obliged. The score was then 0 - 3. 0 - 3 was the score after the first half. Grilled did a good job holding on to the ball, with 56 percent of possession. We'll be back after these interminable commercial messages.
With the scoreboard showing that 58 minutes had been played, Grilled nearly put themselves up another goal after
Chad Thach came through on the left. Fortunately for the home crowd, the keeper made the save. Maybe
Peter 'Colombus' Falk should join the aquatics team instead. He went down dramatically after 59 minutes, crying out with agony as he fell. The referee was not impressed, though, and showed him a yellow for diving. The away team's
Gústav Thoroddsen took advantage of a mistake on the home side's right after 62 minutes increasing Grilled's lead to 0 - 4. The home crowd did not lose faith and cheered their team on as they strove to get back into the game. The fans were rewarded after 65 minutes when
Giorgio 'Kit' Fiby burst forward, 5-holed the central defender and then mischievously lobbed the ball over the advancing goalie to make the score 1 - 4. Definitely a SportsCenter Top 10 candidate – DA-DA-DA! DA-DA-DA! 70 minutes into the game, Grilled wanted to bring some new energy to their game.
Orest Tokarz gave
Evandro La Face a quick hug as he left the field.
Gústav Thoroddsen somehow managed to break free of his man on the left wing and only needed a relatively easy finish to bring Grilled's lead up to 1 - 5. Grilled's
Gústav Thoroddsen proved that he's been around on a soccer field before, when he took advantage of a few moments of confusion in the enemy defensive line and elegantly scored for 1 - 6. That made three goals for
Gústav Thoroddsen. He'll be taking the match ball home with him having scored a hattrick! Eagles's coach was furious with
Luis Alberto Ramos after he picked up a yellow for saying one too many words to the ref. With the clock showing 85 minutes, the fourth official held up the substitution board.
Gústav Thoroddsen looked to see that it was his number in red, so he made his way over to the sideline and swapped out for
Phua Ming Xin, though he would have liked to continue. The fourth official announced that there would be 2 minutes of stoppage time, giving fans a slim hope that their team could get one more attack in before this was all over. The match ends 1 - 6. Now to our celebrity commentator for a hot take. Over to you, Snoop! Eagles's top performer was clearly
Nick 'El mago' Menges. You can tell it was nickel beer night yesterday at the local bar because
Matteo 'Patch' Gianone seemed to stumble all over the pitch. The most outstanding Grilled player was without a doubt
Evandro La Face. Speaking of stinking up the place,
Dimitris Germanakos sure smelled like the bottom of Batman's shoe after a night of crimefighting in Gotham.
