Hidde van Liere
and Quah Han Kok
had their highly-awaited competitive debuts against amateur sacrificial sheep Tanglin United, and though van Liere did score, Ola Martinsson
was the flavour of the day with a comprehensive set of five strikes.
Alcántara introduced an unusually strong lineup consisting mostly of first-teamers, Han Kok and Paullin being the odd ones out. Overkill indeed as Martinsson took nine minutes to kickstart Grilled's season, and then buried another with Paullin's pure pace wreaking havoc on 39 year-old administrative assistant Ba Moe-Moe.
By the time Paullin drove past Ba for the umpteenth time as though he wasn't there, Tanglin had diverted another player to the freerunning Switzer, yet Paullin still burst through to nick an easy solo goal. Martinsson completed his hat-trick through the center, and van Liere came into the game with a mazy run that left Langeland with a sitter.
Tanglin were crumbling, and more work by the busy Paullin down the right set up rightback Jon Andrea Rottman
's goal. Rottman was spending the bulk his time in the opposition half by then. Quah, fixed in midfield, had his moments, but it was Shen who represented the inner midfielders with a solid header away from despairing keeper and captain Zou Guo-Liang.
Tanglin's Chellakumar Pralad hurt himself in the 67th minute, and his replacement Qi Chang-Wei barely touched the ball before being booked. In between, Martinsson converted the penalty given for Pralad's unwise challenge.
Eight-nil up, Grilled strove to go beyond single digits in the twenty minutes left to them, and did so through ex-international van Liere's first ever for Grilled, and Martinsson's milestone two minutes later. Au-Yong Siu-Yue
rounded out the plunder.
