Phantasm 4 - 5 Grilled
The crowd of 44952 turning up at
Phantasm Hotspurs Arena today were greeted with some nasty showers of rain.
Jaber Al-Otaiba was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Cesare Ipanzer and
José Liaño. While a boggy pitch like this was an advantage for physical players, it really didn't help those who relied on speed or technique. Phantasm's lineup was:
Beng Ze -
Mundra,
Leong Kiong,
Soon Chee -
Huang,
Ping Beng,
Azim,
Tang,
Chi Wei -
Hao Heng,
Zulfadhli.
The following players had been chosen by Grilled:
Germanakos -
Keng Chuan,
其材 (Qicai) -
Reddy,
Thach,
Kwang Tse,
Khairul,
Parada -
Reece,
Thoroddsen,
La Face.
Phantasm Hotspurs fielded a 3-5-2 lineup. For Grilled Birds, the formation of choice was 2-5-3. Grilled used their divine (+4) (24) ability to concentrate their attacks in the middle of the pitch, rather than on the wings. The home side put themselves ahead 1 - 0 after 3 minutes courtesy of a breakthrough from
Eng Chi Wei, who scored with a stunning volley following a cross from the right wing. The visitors'
Federico Parada came close to levelling the score after 12 minutes with a free kick that went just wide of the top left corner. Grilled levelled the score after 14 minutes to make it 1 - 1, as
Evandro La Face struck home after a fine midfield combination through the centre, which left him completely unmarked. A mistake by the home side's central defence after 22 minutes allowed
Gústav Thoroddsen to score for Grilled. The scoreboard now read 1 - 2. A slight injury to his left calf muscle meant
Cheong Leong Kiong had to leave the match early. It happened after 24 minutes. The player that took his place was
Kwek Rong Wei.
Eng Chi Wei made a superb strike after 29 minutes with a shot straight in front of the goal after a long ball through the middle, but one of the visitors' defenders got a foot in at the last second and warded it off for a corner.
Gústav Thoroddsen received a delicate pass through the home side's central defence after 41 minutes, and chipped it past the flailing keeper to score making it 1 - 3. The Grilled fans went wild, whilst the home fans started to think about leaving early. The teams went for the halftime break at 1 - 3. Grilled enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 53 percent of possession.
Phantasm reduced the lead to 2 - 3 with 53 minutes on the clock when
Koh Ping Beng got the best of a ball floated in from the left. After 64 minutes, an incisive pass through the middle gave
Gústav Thoroddsen a chance to increase the lead for Grilled, and he did not disappoint. The score was then 2 - 4. At that,
Gústav Thoroddsen was noted down for a hat trick! Phantasm supporters cheered as good work down the right got the ball to
Eng Chi Wei who reduced the visitors' lead after 75 minutes to 3 - 4. 76 minutes into the game, Grilled were awarded a penalty and
Federico Parada was able to increase the visitors' lead to 3 - 5 rolling the ball in by the right post.
Joe Reece was, after 78 minutes, almost able to extend the visitors' lead with a well placed diving header after the ball had looped into the centre, but the home side's keeper
Looi Beng Ze made the save. After 89 minutes, the Grilled coach wanted to see a new face on the pitch, waving
Gústav Thoroddsen off the field.
Phua Ming Xin took his place.
Federico Parada would have preferred to play on, but his coach decided otherwise.
Egemen Dinçer Ferzan entered the game for Grilled as the match clock showed 89 minutes. As
Federico Parada exited the field,
Aw Keng Chuan volunteered to be the new set pieces taker. 89 minutes into the game, Grilled wanted to bring some new energy to their game.
Chad Thach gave
Lim An Keng a quick hug as he left the field. The referee announced 3 minutes of stoppage time, giving fans a slim hope that their team could get one more attack in before this was all over. Phantasm didn't give in and with 90 minutes played
Masyhur Zulfadhli was able to make the score 4 - 5 after an attack on the right. The match ends 4 - 5. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Grilled, with 54 percent of the ball.
Phantasm's top performer was clearly
Mak Hao Heng. However,
Kwek Rong Wei made a disastrous appearance. The most dominating Grilled player was without a doubt
Chia Kwang Tse.
Dimitris Germanakos was a disappointment, however.
