Kuwaiti Premier League side and current national Ruby Challenger Cup holders Beer Piece FC were held to a 4-4 draw by Grilled Birds in the second round of the World Battle, in a hectic attacking game where the Birds compensated for their deficiencies at the back, with an almost reckless forward-looking attitude. Strictly speaking, this Beer Piece FC eleven should have been more than sufficient to counter Grilled's often-careless play, but they too got caught up in the excitement.
Other than left winger David Offer, the Kuwaitis could not be accounted to be behind the Birds in any department, starting from former Sri Lankan U-20 goalkeeper Prabath Warakagoda. While the rest of their team would have no caps to boast off, their collated experience was probably the equal of many internationals; Didi Kawilarang and Arthur Böhlendorff made for an especially potent combination in midfield, but it was Grilled who made things happen early on regardless.

Cunning as the Beer players might have been, they remained unprepared for the extent to which Grilled were willing to throw themselves into the offence without any preliminaries, and there were some gasps as Chad Thach bombed forward to force Warakagoda into a fluster at his near post, after barely two minutes. Thach proved a handful for Böhlendorff throughout, with the lanky German never getting a full grip on Thach's intentions. One such invention would be his blind volley into the box thirteen minutes in, which fell right into the channel that Gandhik Chitre was hoping for. With Baturalp Sümer charging across, Chitre didn't have much time, but his sidefooted strike found the target.

Beer Piece FC would be frustrated for much of this half as they were put off by Grilled's strange intensity, but their fortunes would turn towards its end. With seven minutes remaining, the Birds would run it up through Ha Qicai after Bruno Maffione's effort was parried, and the botched free-kick after Böhlendorff tripped Ha would do it for the Kuwaitis. The counterattack was on as Chia Kwang Tse passed it right into Ivan Mellen, and a smooth passing combination found Didi Kawilarang loping inside unopposed, and the Indonesian took it past Dimitris Germanakos with invincible confidence.

Kawilarang wouldn't even have his cheers die down before bagging a second, as Grilled again made a hash of a rushed restart. More haste less speed indeed, as Brian Reddy's direct run was read only too easily by Czech skipper Patrik Čadil. Incredulously, the Birds had not learnt their lesson even then, and after sending half the team into the Beers' penalty area for a lofted ball, there would be nobody on Giovanni Surian as Javier Maldonado retrieved Hwang Teck Fu's weak header, and Beer Piece FC were 3-1 ahead at the break.

A few Grilled supporters were seen heading off early at this undisciplined display, but Tian Yonghang would whip his team back into shape. The fearlessness of the Birds in the face of adversity had to be admired at times, as they seldom shied away from testing their Beer Piece FC betters, even when the odds were bad. This bull-headedness would eventually be rewarded 62 minutes in, as Ha Qicai again risked a supporting run far from his designated post. It paid off this time, as Mohd Marzuki Khairul shuffled it into his path, and the Hong Kong captain swerved late to catch Warakagoda wrongfooted.

That had the winds turn Grilled's way, as their opponents started to look untethered for once. Offer's weakness on the left would see the Beer Piece FC team pulled towards that flank upon Reddy's advances, which created welcome openings for the others. Lim An Keng ran into traffic in the 65th with Thach booked for trying to recover it clumsily, but the breakthrough would arrive ten minutes later from the left, as Paulino Trindade crossed expertly. Ivan Mellen backpedalled swiftly, but Gandhik Chitre had gone to air already, and his powerful header carried his full weight on it - and it was all even again!

It was the Beer fans' turn to evince despondence, with the Birds clearly in the ascendancy now. Football would prove unpredictable as usual, however, as Lampros Pagkratis put his laces through the ball on a pedestrian-seeming jitter some twenty-over yards out... but the movement on it took it through Dimitris Germanakos' gloves. It was a real downer for the Greek custodian as Pagkratis' teammates mobbed him, for what felt like the winner here.

Brian Reddy's desperate bowling over of Offer and subsequent yellow card did little to dispel that notion, and the entry of Chan Ze Han and Radovan Jaška would be Tian's final card. It so happened to be an ace, however, as Chan wasted no time in casting his old magic on the Beers' backline, and this had Lim An Keng through and locked on. Warakagoda dashed out for the duel, but the Grilled midfielder feinted outwards just a little, before bringing it across his body for the simplest of tap-ins.
