Grilled Birds got their third World Battle victory in a row, as they put Luxembourg II.4 club Fc Babaorum down, by four goals to three. The former Coupe Diekirch winners started very strongly, and finished that way too, but the middle portion belonged mostly to the Birds.
Since personally leading Fc Babaorum to that national honour, Mexican legend Adrián Curucheta has switched over wholly to the coaching side, and presided over the addition of two wing stars, in former Polish youth international Daniel Hasse, and Italy's Pierpaolo Fagnoni. Both would start on the right flank today, and if two seasons of no major purchases have bothered some fans, it might have been due to their superb midfield core of Germans Hennes Polesnig and Wolfgünter Vorpommern, as well as homegrown heartbeat Charely Birsens - of all whom also have international experience.

Grilled were definitely not going to have it easy against players of such a calibre, and they would form up tightly with contesting possession as a major priority, with Mateja Jeftić returning to defence in place of Gilbert Webb. He had barely settled when Polesnig scooped up a sharp pass inside by Fagnoni in the third minute, and was completely thrown off by Polesnig's reversing of his momentum on a dime. Massoud Dob clearly wasn't prepared for that either, and barely closed the angle before Polesnig finished past him.

That was barely a sample of what Babaorum were capable of, it seemed, as they charged Grilled's not-entirely-convincing lines repeatedly over the next twenty minutes. It took some very scrappy defensive contributions from Muthyala, Kamel and even Moey Xin Seng, for the Birds to get through these hard times, and Babaorum nevertheless nearly went two up from Georgi Marinov's world-class free-kick in the 22nd minute. Dob just about got across to that one, and had his arm been but an inch shorter, it would have found the net.

You can't keep a good team down forever either, however, and Fc Babaorum would abruptly find out exactly what they were up against. Possession was slowly beginning to favour the Birds in aggregate, and their opponents' bias towards attacking would open the right side up for Chu Xin Lee, who in turn slid it through for Moey. The skipper's fiercely-struck first effort appeared to have crossed the line after coming back down off the crossbar already, but he would made doubly sure, just in case.

With the equalizer in the bag, Grilled would then go two goals ahead within the next three minutes, as Babaorum's appeared to forget how to defend. Chu would encounter only casual tackling as he advanced within the penalty area before notching it past Edinho Machado, and Wolfgünter Vorpommern would then be utterly bamboozled by Chan Ze Han's slick footwork, which opened up enough room for Chan to score.

That was enough for the Birds for now, and they would switch to a more passive mode, as they could afford to wait and hope to bait their opponents into mistakes. Babaorum were too good to fall for that, however, and were very much the equals of Grilled in patience. The uneasy standoff would last through half-time and well into the second half, as Babaorum's midfield proved itself to be entirely capable of more than holding their own throughout.

The match would spring back into life with some twenty minutes remaining, as Babaorum rediscovered the offensive form that had carried them through the opening period. Hennes Polesnig made good ground against Kalle ter Berg through an intelligent mixture of dribbling and off-the-ball running, and his following outside-of-boot through ball to Spanish forward Hänsel Borsch was inch-perfect. Bhavya Panigrahi was unable to reach it despite committing fully to a final lunge, and Borsch kept his feet to shuffle it past Dob.

Fc Babaorum's rising spirits would be dampened as Chan Ze Han challenged Georgi Marinov and duly restored Grilled's two-goal advantage, but they would swiftly return to being the more aggressive side. Massoud Dob would bravely take the ball off a rampaging Vladimiro Volpin in the 82nd minute, and although Borsch would come through the left side to reduce the Birds' lead once again, Cyril Künzler would enter to put in a big defensive shift, to close it out.
