Farewell Herron
Suber Subri
Grilled Birds bid a poignant adieu to probably the greatest club team Singapore has ever known, though in a rather farcical fashion as the Birds piled up a double-digit tally at Sky Ocean. It was only Grilled's sixth victory in 26 meetings with the ten-time champions, though, a testament to Herron's past dominance.
But history is as history does, and Grilled's players were more interested in maintaining their advantage on goal difference against Rollin', than of bearing witness to sentiment. Rotteveel was heavily involved in the early game as he supplied the first goal for
Subri bin Ku Zainol, and then converted the second himself in the 12th minute.
Herron's volunteers put up a determined rearguard action, but their resistance crumbled after their 30 year-old goalkeeper captain Huang Chu Kwang landed heavily on his ankle and had to be replaced by Cai Jingquan. Cai's first task was to pick the ball out of the net, as the now leaderless backline quickly conceded a penalty, and Sid stuck it in with a cheeky chip right down the middle.
Subri was in the right place to score again as Grilled pressed forward in numbers, and new midfielder
Matthias Branbilla got both a goal and a caution on his debut as he pushed an opponent player rather too hard in the back while in the air, then sped onto the poorly-conceived backpass from the freekick to help it past the stranded goalie. Subri would then complete his hat-trick before half-time by rounding a dispirited-looking Cai.
English winger
Tapesh Chowdhury celebrated his second league goal in three matches, as he feinted his way past Azizul bin Sheikh Abu Bakar before putting in a well-struck curler in at the near post.
Quah Han Kok got the eighth goal, before Subri added another two to make it 0-10 by the 63rd minute.
