Egan Honoured
There would be another feather in the cap for the Birds' former Irish international Bernie Egan, who has at 40 years old announced his departure from football for now, while being inducted into a second Hall of Fame - that of two-time Irish double winners Smithwick's FC. While his four-plus season tenure as head coach at Smithwick's would see them relegated from Division Two to Four, the fans clearly did not hold it against him given the ongoing rebuilding process, and turned out en masse for his Hall of Fame ceremony.
Egan, who will always hold a special place in the hearts of Grilled fanatics for his top-scoring effort in the Singapore Cup in the Birds' own double-winning season, expressed a desire to just take it easy for a while, having dipped his feet into acting sporadically during his previous annual breaks. "It's just nice to be home finally. I'm thinking I will just hang out at the pub, go for some nice, long strolls, and perhaps ref a pickup game here and there, eh?"
