Gagged By Geeks
Fónagy Sting
Not long after their tournament loss to top Hungarian club FC ffferi, III.11 leaders Geek Ant Glory did it again against the Birds, with homegrown midfielder József Fónagy breaking out with a hat-trick to seal the deal after Grilled had done well to make up lost ground in their 1000th official match.
No one could accuse the visitors of being unexciting after they deployed a matching 2-5-3 to face Grilled, and it was more or less even except for first-team wide midfielder Armand Tiefenbach dictating play from the middle. 32 year-old captain Ákos Sengel provided leadership from the back.
With
lu Zunwen having served his suspension, Grilled were left to put out a full reserve side with the possible exception of
Paolo Iten, whose form has however noticeably declined since becoming a rotation player. He certainly did not have as much impact as Tiefenbach, who reprised his usual role down the wings to supply Renátó Kiser, making his debut a month after joining the senior squad, with a much-savoured goal.
Fónagy followed suit the very next minute as
Colby Awyong was again found wanting defensively, and the 20 year-old defender was more successful turning his energies to attack.
Tang Hengcai doggishly forced a corner, and Awyong leaped unstoppably to thunder in header direct from the delivery.
The Geeks would find themselves scoring in bunches once more in the 28th and 29th minute, with Ahillész Tüskés plastering one into the back of the net from deep, before showman Ábel Czupek lined up a wonderful overhead kick that even some of the home supporters grudgingly acknowledged.
With that, the visitors took their game down a notch, and Grilled made full use of the circumstances in the 34th minute as Gudivada breezed past two slighly-complacent defenders to feed
Hung Wee Li for a second. The break didn't have much of an effect on their attitude, and the Geeks only woke up when
Tang Hengcai took Grilled to within a single goal, again courtesy of the indefatigable Gudivada.
Unfortunately, this meant that the Geeks were on the prowl again, and they widened the distance within four minutes. Fónagy made his way between Grilled's centrebacks as the previously uninspiring Imre Kovácsovics surprised all with a majestic dribble down the left, and the goalscorer pounced again to make it 3-5.
A slightly random yellow card for Ahillész Tüskés later, Fónagy completed a memorable hat-trick after
Teo Yong Yau passed back to no-one in particular, and despite
Shiya Shaahee's explosive introduction, that was how it would stay until the end.
