Semiprofessional keazoFC put up a decent struggle against a half-strength Grilled selection but were overpowered 0-8 in the end, with Subri bin Ku Zainol
putting up only his second career hat-trick. It could have been more had Rotteveel been sharper on the questionable pitch, but the Dutch striker was clearly unhappy with the conditions considering the number of times he lost his footing in the quagmire.
keazoFC were prepared to take full advantage of the afternoon downpour, perhaps the underdog's preferred weather, as they kept a disciplined 4-4-2 and were not shy to provide little nudges to Grilled's players whenever the occasion presented itself. That of course could not be sustained forever, and Spirig finally danced around a nip to his heels to get the opener against Ting Huat Qiang.
His constant slips on the wet grass notwithstanding, Rotteveel was still in good enough shape not to come out emptyhanded from the match, as he huffed his way to a rather scrappy second. Subri added a third and fourth in the next two minutes as keazoFC's men were deflated by the run against them.
A collision between Bona and 34 year-old striker Mok Shun Siong, an advertising executive in real life, ended with Mok out cold, and the contrite defender hastily conceded a corner after realising his opponent's condition. The concussion was happily temporary, but the twisted ankle was quite a bit more serious and required a substitution by Jaafar bin Kadir.
Bona shrugged off the incident pretty quickly, and did nothing to endear himself to the home crowd when he was immediately in the thick of things at the other end. If they were expecting him to pass up a sitter as compensation for injuring one of their players, however, they were certainly expecting too much.
A couple of quick turns by Haji Abdullah bin Mohd Saad that allowed him to elude three Grilled players was the high point of keazoFC's second half, though there were a few cheers for young Grilled forward Mohd Firdaus bin Yaacob
when he powered a hair-raising shot into the roof of the net.
Grilled had to make a replacement of their own when Hong Hao Jin, a fitness coach who appeared more a boxer than a footballer, kicked Talib's legs out from behind him in a crude foul. That could have brought a red but resulted only in a yellow, and Talib had to exit for Han Lik-Tsun
Not that Grilled goalie Tomás Semprún Balenciaga
was ever bothered during the game, though. The 37 year-old, making only his second competitive appearance for Grilled, the first against Adidas in a fourth round Cup tie when Grilled were still starting out in Division Four, would claim his second clean sheet without fuss.
Bona was roundly booed as he came close with a mighty right-footed drive, before Spirig got his second from outside the box. keazoFC managed a yellow card as their substitute Jaafar bin Kadir wiped out Bona from behind to general approval from the partisan fans, but the German defender was made of stern stuff and took it in his stride. It was left then to Subri to mop up with his third goal.
