The Keling Kia
The Busy Bees had their first promotee to the senior side today, as
Zaini bin Hj Kaling - just off his seventeenth birthday - signed trainee terms with Grilled International.
Never the most flashy of players, as the generally-calm Zaini would be first to admit, his ambitions were nearly abandoned after being rejected by the Brunei Cubs. A friend convinced him to give it one last go before joining his father as a shipwright, however, and Bees scout Zulfadly bin Hj Ratano liked what he saw.
"Zaini won't go dribbing around three or four guys, if that's what you're after." Zalfadly assessed. "But he's basically a coach's dream. If you put him on a drill, he'll see it through, every single time."
This trait has endeared him to more than a few regulars, whenever the kids were allowed to drop in on their sessions, and head coach
Tajit bin Mohd confirmed that their personal appeals had helped Zaini's case. "I had to give him a chance, after all that."
