Mythical Ola Bows Out
True to his word,
Ola Martinsson signed on for German Division Seven club SV Kali Roßleben in an effort to extend his illustrious career. He leaves Grilled as, by some distance, the best striker they have ever had, with ownership of all the records in the scoring category. He bagged 219 goals in total out of 221 appearances in a Grilled career that spanned twelve seasons, and has made
both the league and cup century.
Among his other feats were Singapore Cup final and Hattrick Masters goals, and coming within touching distance of the Cup scoring title twice. But Martinsson was always more than just about goals, with his nifty technical skills, free-kicks and ice-cold spot kicks sure to feature prominently in Grilled's academy training videos for a long time to come.
His dedication to the club extended to insisting that the club put him on the transfer list instead of just releasing him, so as to earn something from his departure, and it was unsurprising that a club would pay S$1.3 million for such a gem, even in his waning years. In fact, Ola had his choice of SV Kali Roßleben or Czech side FC Vidlakovice, before opting for the former partly as he knows a smattering of German already.
Grilled salutes one of the greatest ever players to have graced the club.
